The Duplicitous, Dishonest Jimmy Kimmel

After Charlie Kirk was murdered in cold blood by a radicalized Left-Wing zealot on September 10th, just 26 days ago, many people on the Left cheered wildly. I already documented 26 specific examples in Uncommon Sense #340 demonstrating that Leftists mocked Kirk’s assassination, showed hatred toward Kirk and his grieving family, and basically celebrated the murder of a human being. Some on the Left, such as Jimmy Kimmel, a late-night TV talk show host, actually tried to blame Donald Trump and Republicans, Conservatives, and what he called “MAGA” people by trying to associate the shooter with the MAGA movement.

That was a premeditated lie.

Let’s unpack this carefully. Here is what Jimmy Kimmel originally said (on September 16th – 6 days after Charlie Kirk’s assassination) to his adoring audience on national TV:

“Many in MAGA-land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk. . . . We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”

Let me translate that: “Conservative Republicans are embarrassed that one of their own murdered Charlie Kirk. These Conservative Republicans are trying to claim the murderer of Charlie Kirk is a Leftist, which he is not. He is a MAGA Republican. This is a new low for Republicans.”

Well, it’s a new low for someone.

I would suggest it is a new low for Jimmy Kimmel.

But how do we know the killer was on the Left and not a Conservative, MAGA type?

For starters, although he grew up a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or what many incorrectly refer to as the “Mormon Church”) he abandoned his faith entirely and dropped all pretense of a belief in God.

Second, he claimed he hated Charlie Kirk, who was a conservative, the exact opposite of a Leftist.

Third, being non-religious, the killer was involved with another young man romantically – a man who claims to be a woman. This would be very much at home in a Left-wing world; not so much in a Conservative world.

Fourth, a shell casing found had a message he had inscribed which used the term “fascist” – meaning, he was calling Charlie Kirk a fascist. This is the language of the Left, not the language of MAGA or Conservative people.

Thus, the killer was clearly a man of the Left. Jimmy Kimmel knew this. But truth is not a Left-wing value.

Jimmy Kimmel’s lie caused him to have his show cancelled for a few days. But eventually, he was given the green light to resume his show. And what did he do upon his return? Did he apologize? No. He lied again. Here is what he said on September 23rd, his first day back on the job:

“I’ve been hearing a lot about what I need to say and do tonight. And the truth is, I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference. If you like me, you like me. If you don’t, you don’t. I have no illusions about changing anyone’s mind. But I do want to make something clear because it’s important to me as a human and that is you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.”

This is a diversion. What Kimmel fails to acknowledge is that no one was accusing him of making light of the murder of a young man. People were outraged that Kimmel said the killer was a Conservative MAGA person and not a Left-Wing radical.

He went on:

“Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make. But I understand that to some that felt either ill-timed or unclear or maybe both. And for those who think I did point a finger, I get why you’re upset. If the situation was reversed, there’s a good chance I’d have felt the same way.”

Again, Jimmy Kimmel was lying here. He claims he was not trying to blame any specific group for the actions of a killer. But, in fact, he was blaming the MAGA movement (which means he was blaming President Donald Trump and Conservative Republicans). Worse, Kimmel was accusing MAGA people of trying to lie about who this killer represented, all the while Kimmel was lying as he castigated MAGA Republicans for allegedly lying. Kimmel was trying to claim he never pointed a finger at anyone, when in fact he did point of finger at MAGA Republicans who had allegedly created this murdering monster. Kimmel’s non-apology on his first night back was disingenuous. It was another lie.

Yet he still wasn’t done, and it only got worse:

“I have many friends and family members on the other side who I love and remain close to even though we don’t agree on politics at all. I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone. This was a sick person who believed violence was a solution and it isn’t, ever.”

Kimmel claimed he has many conservative friends (i.e., the “other side.”) But he almost never invites guests on his show with a conservative viewpoint, other than Senator Ted Cruz almost a decade ago, and Mike Lindell of My Pillow fame in 2021. Jimmy Kimmel has aired 3,588 shows and out of those 3,588 shows, he has invited a grand total of two conservatives to appear. That’s .0278% of his episodes, and an even smaller number if you consider each of his shows typically have more than one guest on it.

Now, lest I be misunderstood, I am not saying that Jimmy Kimmel is obligated to invite conservatives on his show. It’s his show and he is free to run it his way. But that fact that he has invited only two conservatives to appear on his show when he has aired almost 3,600 episodes speaks volumes. Jimmy Kimmel loathes conservatives. I have trouble believing he knows many conservatives he counts as friends whom he loves and remains close to.

But in saying “I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone,” Kimmel was white-washing the ideological underpinnings that led to the murder of Charlie Kirk. It was a Leftist who committed a public assassination, not an ideologically-neutral individual void of an agenda. Jimmy Kimmel lied. Again.

Perhaps that explains why he lost 64% of his audience after coming back on the air.

And that, my friends, is the latest Elephant in the Room.
