Confronting the Left

Recently a library up in northern California invited a woman named Sophia Lorey, a former college athlete, to come to their library and deliver a speech about what it’s like being a college athlete. Ms. Lorey graciously accepted the invitation, but during her speech, she made a comment about how men who pretend they are women frequently compete against women in many different sporting events which harms women’s sports. A male librarian who was present immediately cut her off and admonished her – shamed her really – for “misgendering” the men who are now “women.” In fact, this male librarian was so blatantly rude and obnoxious that he repeatedly interrupted Ms. Lorey and ultimately kicked her out of the library before she could even finish her speech.

I think it high time we American citizens recognize such behavior for what it is and take a stand. It was the librarian who was guilty of “misgendering” because he was calling these men who pretend they are women actual women, which they are not. The librarian’s name was not given in the news story I saw, so I called the library directly because I wanted to write him a letter and address him by name. The woman who answered the phone refused to tell me the name of the male librarian when I asked. Clearly she understood why I wanted to speak with him (I probably wasn’t the first to call), and she wanted to protect him from my wrath, even though I merely asked for his name and said nothing more. I tried more than once, hoping someone would give me his name, but no one would give it up.

So I wrote my letter.

Here is the text of that letter:

August 21, 2023

Mary L. Stephens – Davis Branch Library
315 E. 14th Street
Davis, CA 95616

This letter is addressed to one of your librarians, a male, whose name I do not know. I trust you will hand him this letter.

I understand from news media reports that Sophia Lorey, a former college soccer player, was invited to your library to speak about being a college athlete. I also understand from these reports that she was rudely interrupted and basically asked to leave because you felt she was guilty of “misgendering” certain men who imagine they are women and who then compete against actual biological women in various sporting events.

Clearly, you feel the crime of “misgendering” is a serious one. Unfortunately, you yourself are guilty of the very crime you falsely accused Ms. Lorey of. When you take the position that these men are actually “women” as they claim to be, YOU are misgendering THEM. You are buying into the lie that a man who says he is a woman is actually a woman. He is not. He is, at best, a feminized man. It is scientifically impossible for a man to become a woman, and that is a fact whether you prefer to use the term “sex” or the equivalent term “gender.” This entire Transgender craze is a lie, a lie you have bought into.

I challenge you to a debate on this very issue. I will gladly fly from Arizona where I live to your library on my own dime at a time that is mutually agreeable to our schedules, and you and I can have a public debate on the topic. You can even bring whatever radicalized LGBT activists you wish to join you; I will come alone. You can promote this event and draw a huge crowd. And then let’s see where the chips fall.

How about it? Are you so certain of the correctness of your position that you can survive a debate with me? Let’s debate the issue of whether men who insist they are women are actually women or whether they are, basically, mentally ill, and see how well your position on this matter holds up. Of course, I highly doubt you will agree to a debate because I think you are afraid it will expose the fact that you have bought into utter foolishness. But I want you to be aware that we who have not drunk from the transgender trough know that people like you are dangerous to America and hold values that are antithetical to America, not to mention holding views that are abysmally foolish.

Now I have no allusions that this letter is going to result in anything at all. In fact, it may be thrown in the trash before it is ever seen by the librarian it is meant for. But that’s OK. I will have, at the very least, put the library staff on notice that I don’t stand for this activism and that many other American citizens feel the same way. And if I am ever in northern California, perhaps I may drop in on that librarian unannounced.

We need to be brave, defiant, and strong. No more uncontested slam-dunks from the radicalized Left.
