Schema

Building Your Power of Expression

Schema, n.

Pronunciation: ˈskēmə

Meaning: Aside from its technical use in the fields of logic or philosophy (especially in Kantian philosophy) a schema most generally refers to a representation of a plan or theory in the form of an outline or a model of some kind. If I developed a new theory of Black Holes, I could produce a schema that would outline the various component parts of that new theory, giving astrophysicists an overview or snapshot of my theory. They would thus get the gist of my new theory after reviewing my schema.

Usage:

  • Let me hand you a copy of my schema so you can get a glimpse of my scientific reasoning.
  • In their schema, success is proof of virtue and people are to blame for their own misfortunes.
  • It should be remembered that in Freud’s schema, the superego is also largely unconscious.
