In Issue 321 of Uncommon Sense (December 23, 2024) I shared with you some amazing culinary tools called Tools for Tasting and I want to tell you about them again! The ever-brilliant octogenarian Godfrey Harris, who simply cannot take his foot off the accelerator, a perennial churner of new ideas, new tools, and new projects, produced these simple but effective and lovely kitchen tools which are something every connoisseur of the culinary arts will want to add to their arsenal of cooking tools. Take it from me. I love being in the kitchen and creating mouthwatering dishes is an avocation of mine. Whether it involves soups and stews, fish or other seafood dishes, pastas or potatoes, salads or vegetable dishes, steak, duck, Cornish game hen, or any international dish you can think of (Thai, Mexican, Mediterranean, or Chinese) you will find these three tools a lovely addition to your kitchen toolkit.
The Tools For Tasting arsenal includes a very nifty Scoopasure, which is an ingeniously designed spoon that sports a flat-bowled foundation with sloping edges. I use it to taste-test gravy, sauce, soups, and other liquid or semi-liquid item I am working with. Fabulous tool!
There is also a KuhFork which is a very useful mark of brilliance: it is a two-pronged fork that has a serrated blade on one of the two prongs. I have used it to cut off a small bit of lamb, beef, ham, or sausage to make sure that bit is cooked to perfection.
The third and final member of the trio is called a Noodula – part noodle grabber and part spatula, but a spatula with muted prongs. The prongs are curved in such a way as to make grabbing pasta a snap, easily allowing drainage from the pasta to occur so that the pasta is moist but not soggy.
I love the look of the tools: stainless steel and very shiny. Also, the handles are designed with a slight curve which means I am able to handle them effortlessly without having them slip through my grasp.
I consider all three of the Tools for Tasting to be “must-haves” and essential implements in my kitchen. I even bring them with me when I go into the homes of friends to cook for them. And I plan to give them to an assortment of chums as a gift in the coming days.
And they are very reasonably priced. Check them out at https://www.toolsfortasting.com and let me know what you think of them!
