To all you kitchen connoisseurs, listen up!
You know the routine: You are in the kitchen whipping up several different dishes to feed your family or friends. Every so often, you need to quickly sample the various items you are working on – pasta, gravy, stew, vegetable dishes, casseroles, etc. So you grab a kitchen tool, and then you grab the same tool for a different taste test as all chefs do, and the tool isn’t the right tool. What to do?
Turn to a nifty set I just picked up called Tools For Tasting. This set, designed by the ever-imaginative Godfrey Harris whose penchant for innovation is breathtaking, comes with three very useful tools:
A “ScoopaSure” which is a flat-bowled spoon with ingenious edges that are sloping, making tasting easier and less likely to result in burning your mouth. The “bowl” of the spoon is relatively large, but not too large – about the size of a tablespoon, but the flat surface in the center of the bowl is a nice feature, allowing sauces and gravies to settle in the bottom of the spoon with a larger surrounding wall giving users a little safety-zone to guard against scalding.
A second tool in the collection is the KuhFork. This thing is truly ingenious. It’s a two-pronged fork that also features a serrated blade on one of the edges, enabling you to cut through a roast, a leg of lamb, a simmering duck, or any meat or cheese you may be working with. The serrated blade is not so sharp that you risk being cut, yet sharp enough to do the job of cutting a sample of the food in question. To be able to use a single tool to both slice a portion to taste-test it and also lift it up with the same tool is a welcome tool to my cooking arsenal.
Finally, the kit comes with what is called a Noodula, which, at a glance, appears to be a small spatula with curved prongs that are wide enough to capture most pastas. You can also use it to flip pasta while allowing the space between the prongs to serve as a drainage tool, leaving your pasta moist but not soaked.
Further, the curved feature of each handle of all three tools enables one to grab the tools with ease, critically important when moving at a fast pace in the kitchen. All three tools are made of stainless steel, yet have a mirror-like finish on them, making them attractive tools, and fun to hold and work with.
If you are a serious foodie and love creating your magic in the kitchen, I strongly recommend these magnificent tools! They are not expensive and I am confident you will enjoy using them. I sure do!
